UCOL - CIIS tie-up to promote study and work permit


Study for a year at NZ, get two years’ work permit

Chandigarh, September 1

The collaboration of Continental Institute for International Studies (CIIS) and Universal College of Learning (UCOL), New Zealand has opened new vistas for learning and earning.

Individuals can undertake one-year graduate diploma courses at UCOL, which will entitle them for two years of work permit. This is also sure to pave way for a permanent residency for those keen to settle at New Zealand.

Lt Col (retd) BS Sandhu, President, CIIS Educational services society said that the collaboration for foundation courses of seven generic streams will help UCOL & CIIS to reach out to a larger segment of students and then hone their skills accordingly to ensure their subsequent success in the program.

Sandhu added that six month foundation courses for under-graduate as well as post-graduate programs would ensure that students are equipped with required competencies in English, computers and general education it would also incorporate a module on core subject area. Special emphasis is to ensure students’ sensitization to education and cultural norms of the country. Working professionals will be given an option to do respective programs through online mode.

Mr. Clive Jones, the Deputy Chief Executive - Strategy & Dean of Humanities & Business faculty, UCOL felt that These industry-oriented programs would ensure the absorption of students after completion of the programs.

The programmes short-listed for January 2010 intake of CIIS include bio, health and human sciences consisting of behavioral sciences, work place wellness, occupational therapist etc.

Program of art and design will include fashion designing /management, multi media designing, web designing, film and TV-media production, advertising, 3D modeling and visual effects production.

There will also be foundation course on aircraft maintenance engineering. Courses in business, tourism and hospitality will have business accounting, financial services, international business, business administration, management of computers, tourism, cosmetics, fitness and health promotion, food and beverage services, travel industry services etc.

Course in trades and technology will dwell on architectural technology, design foundation, electrical engineering technology control systems and others.

It will also offer mass communication journalism print and broadcasting, graphic design media, event management, advertising, media management etc.

Courses in floriculture and horticulture will train for green house technician, horticulture technician, landscape technicians.

Besides this CIIS is currently conducting six months foundation program through flexible learning that ensures success and absorption of GNM nurses into one year RNBN program that is subsequently conducted in UCOL New Zealand.
